Privacy Policy

Overview

Big Ugly Truck LLC ("we", "us", "our") operates mycarsnotjunk.com. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the Site, what we do with it, who else sees it, and the choices you have. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Information you give us

To create an account you give us your mobile phone number and a name. The name is shown to the people you deal with on the Site; the phone number is not shown to anyone.

When you post a listing, we store what you enter: the VIN, year, make, model, trim, mileage, price, title status, condition, transmission, fuel, color, ZIP code and description, and the photos you upload. When you upload a photo we resize it and remove its embedded data, including any GPS location, before we store it.

When you send a message, we store its text, who sent it, when, and whether it has been read. When you report a listing or a conversation, we store the report and the reason you chose.

Information collected automatically

When you visit, our servers receive your IP address and your browser's standard request information. We use the IP address to protect the Site: to limit how many sign-in codes can be requested, to tell repeated reports apart, and to investigate abuse. We count how many times each listing has been viewed, as a number, without recording who viewed it.

We do not use analytics or advertising trackers.

What other people see

A published listing is public: anyone can see its details and photos, including the VIN and ZIP code you entered and the town and state that ZIP code is in, the date it was posted, and the name of the person who listed it. Search engines may index it.

Your phone number is never shown on the Site, to buyers, to sellers or to anyone else. Messages can be read only by the two people in the conversation, and by us in the circumstances described in our Terms.

How we use your information

We use your information to run the Site: to sign you in, to publish and show your listings, to deliver your messages and text you when you receive one, to show you how many times your listings have been viewed, to review reports, and to prevent fraud, spam and abuse, including by banning numbers. We do not use it for anything unrelated to the Site.

Text messages

We send two kinds of text: a one-time code when you sign in, and a notification with a link when someone sends you a message. A notification never includes what the message says. We do not send marketing texts. Reply STOP to any text to stop them and HELP for help. Message and data rates may apply.

Text message opt-in data and consent are not shared with third parties for their marketing purposes.

Cookies

We set one cookie, which keeps you signed in. It is needed for the Site to work and is not used to track you anywhere else. When you send a first message or a report, a security check from Cloudflare (Turnstile) may run in your browser to tell people from automated programs; it collects information about your browser and device for that purpose only. We do not use advertising cookies.

Who we share it with

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only with the companies that run parts of the Site for us, and only what each needs: Render, which hosts the Site and its database; Cloudflare, which stores listing photos and provides the security check; and Twilio, which sends our text messages and verifies sign-in codes and so receives your phone number. When you look up a VIN, the VIN is sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and to a vehicle-data service to decode it. Each of these companies handles data under its own privacy policy.

We may also disclose information when the law, a court order or a government authority requires it, or when we believe it is necessary to protect someone's safety or to investigate fraud. If our business is sold or merged, your information may transfer as part of that transaction, and this policy will still apply to it.

How long we keep it

We keep your account, listings and messages while your account exists. A listing you delete or that we remove stops being public straight away; we may keep a record of it, and of reports and bans, for as long as we need to prevent abuse and meet legal obligations. Sign-in sessions end after a set time or when you sign out.

Your choices and rights

You can edit, hide or delete your own listings at any time from My listings, and change what you have written in them. You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete your account and the information connected to it, by contacting us using the details below. We will answer within a reasonable time, and we may need to confirm the request comes from the number on the account.

California residents

If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, to have it deleted, to correct it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information as that law defines it. To make a request, contact us using the details below. We will not treat you differently for making one.

Children

The Site is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account, and the Site is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13; if you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We protect your information with reasonable measures, including encrypted connections, sign-in by one-time code rather than password, and storing only a scrambled form of each sign-in token. No method of storing or sending information is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee that it is.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. When we do, we update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the Site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
